Nathaniel "Nat" Nathanson is an American jazz, rhythm and blues, and soul jazz pianist and singer. He is known for playing electric piano and keyboards. Nathanson's most well-known works are his 1968 hit "Walk Away Renee", his 1969 song "Buckle Down", and his 1985 hit "Love Bug". He also co-wrote the song "Little Miss Magic" recorded by the Three Degrees for the 1975 album Oh No It's Not!
Biography
Early career
Nathaniel "Nat" Nathanson started his music career as a pianist and keyboardist in the 1960s. He worked as a recording artist under such labels as Excello, Apollo, Pacific, and Big Top and played on thousands of records. Nathanson also worked with the Sun Ra Arkestra, Steve Lacy, and the Three Degrees, plus a string of records for Mamba Records. As a session musician, he worked with the Mells and the Three Degrees, along with numerous others.
In 1967, he recorded his first single, a cover of a Gerry and the Pacemakers song, "Let Me Be the One." In 1968, he recorded an album of his own, entitled Nat Nathanson. The album contained two singles, "Walk Away Renee" and "Buckle Down." Both hit number one on the R&B charts. He followed this album with his second album, titled Trouble in Paradise, which was recorded with a string orchestra. The album included "Trouble in Paradise," "Your Love Is Here to Stay," and "The Girlie Show," all singles that were released in the US. He followed this album with another, Nat & Friends, in the early 1970s, which included the singles "Too Hot" and "Dynamite." These were among his best selling singles.
